After-school Program Coordinator

JOB PURPOSE:

We are seeking a motivated and experienced After-school Program Coordinator to coordinate our dynamic after-school program, focusing on coordinating three key components: the life skills program, the day-to-day operations of the youth center, and the transportation program. This role requires strong coordination skills, leadership, and a passion for supporting the educational and holistic development of children and adolescents ages 6-18. The successful candidate will manage youth behavior through positive reinforcement, redirection, and progressive discipline in accordance with City on a Hill’s philosophy, policies, procedures, and the WACYCP Code of Ethics, while also modeling and fostering an environment that promotes physical, mental, social, and emotional health.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists in the day-to-day operations of the Youth Center

  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of program participants through mailers, flyering, neighborhood popups, community events, and daily exterior signage.
  • Maintain accurate records, including attendance rosters, incident reports, timetrackers and timecards. May also be required to prepare program reports and success stories.
  • Assist with the preparation and implementation of field trips.
  • Assist with meal and snack distribution, ensuring adherence to program rules and collecting relevant data.
  • Coordinates weekly structured activity during open rec activities providing opportunities for youth to make choices with their free time.
  • Organize and coordinate monthly birthday celebrations and program graduations.
  • Assists with preparation for foundation visits and tours.
  • Maintains the physical state of all program space and equipment by practicing safety, cleanliness, and inventory control. Uses planning and downtime appropriately. Helping to organize space and supplies within the youth center program.
  • Anticipates unsafe situations and intervenes when they occur. Responds quickly to changing situations and moves around the Center as needed.

2. Life Skills Program

  • Coordinate and implement the community garden program, lead youth to maintain the space, plan the planting schedule and design, collaborate with partners to grow the program, and assist the manager in sharing harvests with the community.
  • Facilitates weekly wellness programming with a focus on youth mental health, emotional regulation, and growth mindsets.
  • Assist the manager in delivering healthy choices programming, including meals, nutrition education, physical activity, and relationship development.
  • Facilitating safety training in the youth center, including but not limited to topics such as swimming, bike safety, fire safety, lead poisoning prevention, and safe routes in the city.
  • Assists program manager with the implementation of youth podcast.
  • Evaluate the impact of the Healthy Choices program through surveys, assessments, and feedback from participants and stakeholders.
  • Partner with the Youth Center Manager to attend or host monthly PAL (Police Athletic League) meetings with teen staff and council members.

3. Transportation Program

  • Coordinate the transportation program, which includes coordinating public transportation, Uber services, and van transportation.
  • Ensures safe and efficient transportation of participants to and from program activities, adhering to relevant safety regulations and protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of transportation schedules, routes, and expenses, optimizing logistics for cost-effectiveness and reliability.
  • Works with the youth center manager to address any transportation-related concerns or issues promptly and acts as a liaison with parents, schools, drivers, and transportation providers as needed.

Completes other activities and tasks as assigned.

 Adheres to City on a Hill’s values and contributes to the team’s unity.

Attends all-staff meetings, initiatives, and celebrations and collaborates with staff on discipleship for the City on a Hill strategic plan.

Specialized Know-How and Requirements:

  • The candidate must have residency within the City of Milwaukee, prior to the start of employment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years old with at least 1 year of youth development or discipleship experience.
  • Must have excellent attendance, available Monday- Thursday, and some weekends.
  • Must possess a driver’s license and be able and willing to drive City on a Hill vehicles.
  • Experience in nonprofit, social service or para-church organizations, or churches.
  • Cross-cultural experience necessary.
  • Must be proficient with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and other basic office equipment and software.
  • Strong organizational skills, written/oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability.
  • Must be, or be willing to become, CPR/First Aid Certified, WACYCP Youth Professionals Certification, and Love & Logic Training.
  • Basic knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and working with youth with Adverse Childhood Experiences (A.C.E.s) – Familiarity with transportation logistics and regulations, particularly in the context of youth transportation services.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, parents, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the capacity to inspire and motivate others toward common goals.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to perform responsibilities in a self-directed manner.
  • Ability to function effectively in an environment requiring multi-tasking.
  • Growing relationship with Christ and involvement in a local church.
  • Evidence of spiritual maturity, including integrity, humility and self-discipline.

Mental/Physical Requirements:

  • Operates equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Stands, walks, and reaches above the shoulders as well as squats, bends, twists, kneels, and climbs throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to lift, push, carry various items (bags, boxes, etc.):
  • Lift up to 10 lbs. and frequently up to 20 lbs.
  • Push/pull 20 lbs.
